Reflections and Appreciation

Arrived in San Antonio this afternoon and headed for Fort Sam Houston cemetery.

As we turned in, we stopped at the office to get a plot number for our aunt’s grave. I looked up and around at all the white headstones that seemed to go on for several hundred yards in three directions. My heart just sank to think that these are all military and their families who have all served their country to protect the very freedoms we all too often take for granted (this trip is a prime example). Here we are going from state to state at will, what we’re doing would be impossible in many countries. We found her site stood a moment sprinkled some of Mom’s ashes then slowly rode back through to the main gate. TO ALL THOSE THERE, I FOR ONE AM FOREVER GRATEFUL FOR YOUR SACRIFICE.

Today we started north heading to San Antonio to go to the cemetery where Mom’s baby sister rests. We got there about 3:00 PM; after spending some time there it is hard to believe she has been gone for six years. We spread some of Mom’s ashes here so she can be close to her baby sister.

After we left there, we went downtown San Antonio to meet up with Deanna (Dan’s Wife) to have lunch or an early dinner. Now it five o’clock and now we know what downtown rush hour traffic is like (not good). Now we are on our way to Lampasas to see our uncle Jim and cousins Peggy and Bruce. Jim and I went to Uncle Jim’s, Dan and Doug went to Peggy and Bruce’s. Jim has commented how much he enjoyed going to uncles.

Ride going well. Arrived at San Antonio, found Auntie’s grave and Jim put some of Mom’s ashes on it. A little of a quiet time and then went to have lunch with DeAnna. About 3:30 or so it was off to Bruce and Peggy’s. Doug and I had a great time with them, went for a swim and had a great dinner. Went to bed about 3:00 up at 9:00 AM.
